GeoReview: Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
By Clayton Ruley

...Only because they have all the real information!

This Magnolia Pictures release of a film done by 2929 Entertainment and HDNET Films in association with Jigsaw Productions is about the huge shaft the upper executives gave Enron employees and the public that was buy its products and stock.

Based on the book "The Smartest Guys In The Room" by Peter Elkind and BethanyMcLean and narrated by Peter Coyote, this film and you get to see those involved (including the late Kenneth Lay) in interviews and
other speaking engagements lie to their constituents about Enron and it's viability as a company.

Enron, if you didn't know, was a billion dollar company that was involved one of history's biggest corporate scandals and lost millions in dollars and assets. The film goes into gory (yes just like murder, taking people's livelihood is gory) detail about how the company began and ended and what happened and didn't to get to the point it did! The 110 minute film was very sad to watch and makes you mad just watching. It's ironic that Lay didn't even get to serve a day in jail because he might have cause many to kill something with all the money and time
they lost!

The film has plenty of detail and factual evidence that the Enron executives had knowledge of exactly what they were doing and continued to do so in the name of greed! The film is also good for a beginner Enron person (such as myself) who has little to no knowledge of the details because it explains everything in a easy manner. Sad to say some of the same people responsible for the current condition of the country watched as this scandal went down and did little because of their own greed and power driven hunger!

The special features are excellent and include deleted scenes, a making of feature, a gallery of Enron cartoons, original Fortune magazine articles,an index of website for information and a few more features.

Overall if you want to see the crime in more detail and see where the money went this a excellent piece I give it 4.5 GeoGlobes!
